Hey, y’all.
Trying something new that I plan to do regularly in addition to my longer pieces and my reading recaps/round-ups.
This is relatively straightforward: four good things from me to you.
A movie: Super 8
Summer is in full effect. That means, I imagine, movie nights with your kids, nephews and nieces, or crew. JJ Abrams’ 2011 offering, Super 8, is “Stranger Things before Stranger Things.” And it’s better, too.
A Book: Dog Songs by Mary Oliver (2015)
Mary Oliver on dogs. What’s not to love? Here’s Mary Oliver reading one of the poems.
A Quote on the inner life:
“Our interior life ought to be the stem, filled with vigorous sap, of which our works are the flowers. The soul of an apostle—it should be flooded first of all with light, and inflamed with love, so that, reflecting that light and that heat, it may enlighten and give warmth to other souls as well. That which they have heard, which they have seen with their eyes, which they have looked upon, and their hands have almost handled, this will they teach to men.”
— Dom Jean-Baptiste Chautard, The Soul of the Apostolate

Haven’t watched Super 8 yet but hope to sooner rather than later. I’ve heard people reminded of E.T. or the Goonies too.
I like this! It's informative, it's a quick read, and it still provides something to ponder. That quote about the apostle's heart is fire.
